This case 

The following case questions were designed to complement the Tetralogy of Fallot video. They were developed by Katie Girgulis with the help of Dr. Andrew Mackie, Dr. Karen Forbes, and Dr. Melanie Lewis.  Katie is a medical student at the University of Alberta. Dr. Mackie is a pediatric cardiologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and Dr. Forbes and Dr. Lewis are both pediatricians and medical educators at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. 

The learning objectives of these case questions are: 

  1. Identify features of pathological murmurs in infants
  2. Recognize the clinical presentations of Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF)
  3. Describe the four anatomical characteristics of ToF
  4. Describe the pathophysiology of the murmur in ToF
  5. Formulate initial steps when ToF is suspected
  6. Delineate the treatment of hypercyanotic episodes
  7. Summarize the definitive treatment for ToF
