PART 2: Long-term management principles, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, and Sick Day Management

By completion of part 2 of this case, the learner should be able to:

  1. Explain the different types of insulins and their associated uses in various insulin regimens for pediatric T1DM management.
  2. Describe the investigations required in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) with an understanding of the pathophysiological principles leading to the investigation results.
  3. Interpret investigations most commonly ordered in DKA.
  4. List and briefly describe the key management principles of pediatric DKA.
  5. List the principles of sick day management in pediatric T1DM.

NOTE: This is a two-part case. However, depending on your learning objectives, you may choose to complete either part 1 or part 2 or both.
