Approach to Pediatric ECG - Part 1

This is Part 1 of a two-part series about the approach to pediatric ECGs. This series was developed by Eric King, a medical student at the University of Alberta. This podcast was developed with the help of pediatric hospitalist and medical educator Dr. Karen Forbes, pediatric cardiologist Dr. Joseph Atallah and the help of the PedsCases team.

Key Pediatric ECG Normative Data

Use this handout as a quick resource to check the normative lead-independent and precordial lead ECG measurements for boys and girls. This handout was created by Eric King, a medical student at the University of Alberta, with the help of Dr. Karen Forbes, a pediatric hospital and medical educator at the University of Alberta. This chart is based on the video series on the Approach to Pediatric ECGs by Eric King, Dr. Forbes and Dr.

Approach to Pediatric ECG

This note gives a concise approach to interpreting pediatric ECGs. It was created by Eric King, a medical student at the University of Alberta, and Dr. Karen Forbes, a pediatric hospitalist and medical educator at the University of Alberta. This infographic is based on the video series by Eric King, Dr. Forbes and Dr. Joseph Atallah, pediatric cardiologist at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Canada.

Approach to Heart Murmurs

This PedsCases Note provides a brief overview of an approach to heart murmurs, including key features to look for on history, physical exam, and auscultation. Examples of various innocent and pathologic murmurs relevant to the pediatric population are also described. This Note was created by Sarah Park, a second year medical student at the University of Alberta, with guidance from Dr. Michael Prodanuk (The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto), and Dr. Chris Novak (Stollery Children's Hospital, Edmonton). It was based off the podcast "Evaluation of a Heart Murmur" by Dr.

Congenital Congestive Heart Failure

This podcast presents an approach to the management of congenital-related congestive heart failure in children. In this episode, listeners will learn how to identify typical signs and symptoms of CHF in different age groups, the utility of diagnostic tests for CHF, and options for treatment and management. This podcast was developed by Jyote Boora, a third-year medical student at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Dr. Angela McBrien, a pediatric cardiologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease

This podcast presents an approach to recognizing and managing cyanotic congenital heart diseases in a newborn. Listeners will learn about etiology and pathophysiology, as well as reviewing what investigations and physical exam findings are suggestive of a cyanotic congenital heart disease. This podcast was developed by Shealynn Carpenter and Brie Cawston-Grant, medical students at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Dr. Jessica Foulds, a pediatrician, and Dr. Lily Lin, a pediatric cardiologist at the University of Alberta.

Acyanotic Congenital Heart Lesions - Part 2

This podcast is part two of the two part series on acyanotic congenital heart lesions which describes the pathophysiology of obstructive acyanotic heart lesions including pulmonary stenosis, aortic stenosis, and coarctation of the aorta. This podcast was developed by Herman Bami, a second year medical student from Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario and Dr. Michael Grattan, a pediatric cardiologist at the London Health Sciences Center.

Acyanotic Congenital Heart Lesions - Part 1

This podcast is part one of the two part series on acyanotic congenital heart lesions which defines congenital heart disease, classifies it as cyanotic or acyanotic, describes pathophysiology of left-to-right shunts and reviews septal defects and patent ductus arteriosus. This podcast was developed by Herman Bami, a second year medical student from Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario and Dr. Michael Grattan, a pediatric cardiologist at the London Health Sciences Center.
